Tour Itinerary
This 7-day Tanzania safari takes you to some of the country’s best destinations for wildlife sightings: From the shores of Lake Manyara where you can spot flocks of flamingos, to the baobab trees and elephants of Tarangire, from the world-famous Serengeti where you can witness the great wildebeest migration, to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater where you can see the Big Five in their natural habitat.
In a small and personal group of no more than seven travelers, your experienced and knowledgeable guide will share his expertise about flora, fauna, and local life with you. You can step out of the car and get an insight into one of Tanzania’s most essential industries on a walk around a coffee plantation in Karatu.
You will overnight at small and personal accommodations, such as the Lake Burunge Tented Lodge, Kirurumu Manyara Lodge, and Kati Kati Tented Camp. These lodges are designed to provide a comfortable and intimate experience, with each one offering unique views of the surrounding nature.
Distance approx. 150 km; driving time approx. 2-3 hours. After a morning safari briefing, you will take a two-hour drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park in a comfortable and safe 4×4 safari vehicle. The park offers a stunning natural setting with lush bush savannahs, seasonal marshes, and magnificent baobab trees. It is renowned as one of the best places to witness elephants up close.
Additionally, the park is home to zebras, buffaloes, and many migratory wildebeests, continually followed by predators such as lions. Leopards are rarely spotted, while cheetahs are seldom seen. From the open roof of the safari vehicle, you can enjoy the stunning landscape and observe the wildlife. You will drive to Lake Burunge Tented Lodge in the late afternoon to spend the night.
Distance approx. 100 km; driving time approx. 1-2 hours Once you finish your breakfast, you will travel from the Tarangire Area to Lake Manyara National Park. This park is famous for its unique wildlife, including over 400 species of birds, primates that reside in the forests, and animals such as giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, and impalas, as well as noisy monkeys and baboons.
The park’s alkaline Lake Manyara is also a sight to behold, as it serves as the seasonal breeding ground for large colonies of flamingos and many more waterfowl that cover a vast area of the park. After a thrilling game drive, you will spend the night at Kirurumu Manyara Lodge. During your stay, you will have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a variety of local and international dishes to choose from.
Distance approx. 200 km; driving time approx. 4-6 hours After breakfast, you will travel through the cooler highlands towards the southern Serengeti. Around midday, you will arrive at Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s largest park. The park boasts diverse habitats, including short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps, and lakes.
The grassy landscape is dotted with bizarre rock formations called kopjes, which predators often frequent. The Serengeti National Park is renowned for its annual wildebeest migration, during which hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras journey to locate fresh water and grass. During your stay at the Kati Kati Tented Camp in the park, you will enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The whole day will be spent viewing games in Serengeti National Park. The specific areas you will visit will depend on the location of the migrating herds. Predators such as lions, leopards (usually found in acacia trees), and cheetahs closely follow these herds. Between November and December, the herds migrate from the north hills to the south plains during the rainy season.
The wildebeest migration up north occurs during the rainy season, from April to June. As the migration depends solely on the yearly rainfall, the location of the herds may vary from year to year. However, your guide will be well-informed on where to locate the animals and where you can observe them best. Your overnight stay will be at the Kati Kati Tented Camp. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.
Distance approx. 170 km; driving time approx. 4-6 hours. You will enjoy more game viewing during your journey toward the park gate. You will depart from Serengeti National Park to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the early afternoon.
Once you reach the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, you will be mesmerized by the breathtaking view of the giant caldera below. Afterward, you will leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and head towards Karatu, located in the Ngorongoro highlands. During your stay, you will take a guided walk through the coffee plantation to learn about the cultivation and processing of coffee, offering a unique cultural experience.
Finally, you will spend the night at one of the three beautifully located Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure Lodges. During your stay, you will be served breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Distance approx. 50 km; driving time approx. 1-2 hours Good morning! After having breakfast at daybreak, you’ll head back to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before descending into the crater.
This volcanic region is the natural habitat of over 25,000 wild animals, including the Big Five (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, and leopard), hyenas, wild dogs, and hundreds of bird species.
You’ll enjoy an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch before departing the caldera in the afternoon and returning to your Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure Lodge for another night. The meals provided during this trip are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The distance is approximately 160 km, and the driving time is approximately 2-3 hours. After a relaxing breakfast, you will be chauffeured back to Arusha, arriving around noon.
You will be dropped off in the city center or at the airport.

OUR TOP FAQS ANSWERED
Tanzania safari Frequently Asked Question
To truly immerse yourself in the wonders of Tanzania's safari, such as the Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, and Tarangire National Park, consider a 5-7-day adventure. This will allow you ample time to explore the northern circuit and witness the Big Five and other iconic animals. For those with a thirst for more, there are awe-inspiring safari expeditions that span 20+ days, offering a deeper connection with the wilderness and a chance to discover hidden gems.
If time is of the essence, a swift safari covering Arusha and either Tarangire or Lake Manyara National Park can be completed in 1-2 days. It's a fantastic snapshot of Tanzania's wildlife. And, if you're particularly interested in the Serengeti but find yourself pressed for time, consider the convenience of flying directly there.
Choosing the right time for a safari in Tanzania depends on your preferences. The dry season, spanning June to October and January to March, is ideal for wildlife spotting as animals gather around water sources. You'll enjoy sunny days, but expect crowds, especially during the Great Migration and the birthing seasons of zebras and wildebeests.
On the other hand, the rainy season, from April to May and November to December, offers a lush landscape with fewer visitors and potential discounts at lodges. Transition periods like late March, early June, late October, and November are perfect for a more peaceful experience, balancing good weather with fewer tourists.

The Great Wildebeest Migration is a captivating natural spectacle for wildlife enthusiasts, featuring over a million animals journeying across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Beginning with calving in the southern Serengeti, near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, they traverse the Serengeti towards Kenya's Masai Mara, returning by the end of the year. One of the most thrilling parts of this migration is the Mara River crossing. Here, the migration herds confront the challenging currents and hungry predators lurking in the waters.
Witnessing thousands of these animals navigate the Mara River is a highlight for many travelers, creating memories that last a lifetime.
Cars can be left on Tanzania safaris only in designated areas. Because of safety considerations, cars cannot be left right in the middle of the national park.
Rest assured, Wi-Fi is available in our safari vehicles, ensuring you stay connected even in the heart of the wilderness. However, please note that coverage might be limited in the more remote areas of national parks. You can also expect Wi-Fi in hotels and lodges across Tanzania, although the connection in those locations can sometimes be intermittent. This ensures that you can share your incredible safari experiences with your loved ones, even from the most remote corners of Tanzania.
The Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti offers year-round drama. It peaks with the wildebeest calving season in February-March and dramatic river crossings in May-August before moving to Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve from August to October.
Kilimanjaro International Airport is the gateway to northern Tanzania national parks like Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater and is close to Mount Kilimanjaro. Dar Es Salaam International Airport is the go-to entry point for the southern parks.
Choose shirts and pants in neutral colors like khaki or gray for a safari to blend in and hide dust. Avoid white, blue, and camouflage clothing. Blue attracts tsetse flies, and camouflage is restricted to civilians. Dresses are fabulous for lodges, but pants are practical for driving. Remember sun protection: a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. For footwear, sandals are OK for lodges, but closed shoes are better for drives. Pack a warm jacket for chilly mornings and evenings, especially in high-altitude areas.
Regular visitors are not permitted to operate drones in Tanzania's national parks. However, special permissions can be obtained for filming projects. This process typically takes 3-4 months and incurs additional costs. Bringing a drone into Tanzania without the necessary permissions risks confiscation by customs officials upon arrival.
